Lisa brought her dog to her local veterinarian for a routine spaying. When the phone rang, she expected it was news that her dog was ready to come home. Instead, the receptionist told her that her dog was dead. She had bled to death. As Lisa was trying to absorb this shocking news, the receptionist said, "So... do you want to cremate her or what?"

Kathy took her Scottie to her local veterinarian for a routine spaying. Her dog died on the operating table from an overdose of anesthesia. Shocked and upset, Kathy agreed to have the body cremated. The vet held the dog's ashes hostage however, until Kathy paid the enormous bill.

Ginny brought her cat to the clinic for a routine spaying. She was later informed that although her cat survived the operation, she had strangled to death on the bars of her cage.

Eunice's cat "Eddy" developed stones which prevented him from urinating. After emergency surgery to remove the stones, Eddy did not recover normally. His vet had failed to notice the stone lodged in Eddy's penis. The vet removed Eddy's penis. Eddy's health deteriorated and he was eventually euthanized.

And then there's me. My stories. After the University of Minnesota Veterinary Clinic vets screwed up and killed my dog, my faith in veterinarians was forever shattered, but my eyes were finally opened. (See Luke's story)

When a person finds a rotten apple in the barrel, one starts to scrutinize all of the other apples. Some apples have yet to be corrupted. Some are still good. Some have a few spots. When I took a cold, hard look, I saw that the rot was profuse, and I found a lot of worms in my barrel of veterinarians.

Some people (mostly veterinarians, I imagine) may write me off as a disgruntled nutcase who can't accept the death of my pet. Dr. Galen Brelie told me "Some people are just nasty" and I think he was referring to me... But the purpose of this website is not to be nasty or bad-mouth specific bad vets. The purpose is to warn you that what happened to my animals can happen to yours. And - to hold the bad vets mentioned on this website accountable for their mistakes that killed their patients. Not all of the veterinarians are "bad vets", but I cannot recommend any of them as "good vets" either. If you review the cases, you should be able to judge them for yourself.

Since I first created this website, I have received many emails from grieving pet owners containing horror stories of veterinarian malpractice. The incredible number of dead pets reported to me indicates that there is a grave national problem within the field of veterinary medicine: incompetence, negligence, over-charging, misdiagnosis, a multitude of dumb veterinary mistakes. Unfortunately, due to a legal system which protects bad veterinarians, there is little, if any recourse for pet owners who have lost their loved one.

If you feel like a disgruntled nutcase who can't accept the death of your pet, you may just be a victim of veterinary malpractice... Sadly, you are not alone.

I've had the good fortune to have many wonderful animals in my life. Through a lifetime of pets, I've employed a lot of vets taking care of them. I used to trust them. I relied on their expertise. I was grateful to them. Now I have questions. In retrospect, were many of my animals hurt or killed by the very "experts" I employed to save them and keep them healthy? Oh, I'm not talking about those terribly sad but inevitable situations where nothing can be done to save Fluffy.

I'm talking about stupid, avoidable, careless errors made by "professionals" who, for a number of reasons "get away with murder".
